this week, my best friend asked me, âwhatâs one thing thatâs going well for you right now?â itâs been hard to answer these types of questions recently â in a good way. a lot of things seem to be going well. iâve hit a season in my life that a younger version of myself would have been really proud. all of my simple dreams to have a home i love, friends that bring out the best in me, and to travel the world all seem to be coming true. as i find myself heading into the holiday season, iâm reminded of how lucky i am to have all of the things i once wished for. starting with what iâm doing this weekendâŠ

i am hosting my second annual friendsgiving tomorrow! last yearâs was successful in so many ways â the flowers, the place settings, the natty wine, and the playlist of course. i kept almost the same soundtrack but added a few of my favorite songs from this year. if your looking for a good autumn playlist in general, listen to mine below
(recent research within my friend group has confirmed that the boys are back in town is a thanksgiving song).
as we head into the winter months, this also means iâm wrapping up my autumn playlist. my seasonal playlists are less curated and more of a place for me to dump all of my favorite songs from the last few months. my top songs from this season are charm you by samia and giver / taker by kacey musgraves.
wine clerb
one of my favorite nights of the year is coming up â beaujolais nouveau release at hidden track. two years ago, i stumbled on this event as i was trying to become a regular at the new wine bar near my house (which iâve successfully done).
every september, this french grape is pressed for the yearâs vintage to be ready to open and sell starting at midnight on the third thursday in november. the tradition started in beaujolais region in the 1800s and is now celebrated around the world.
this will be my third year attending, celebrating french wine, eating fromage, and having an excuse to wear one of my many berets.
also at hidden track, iâve been loving this skin contact moscatel from italy. with a sweet and floral nose, it surprised me the first time i had tasted it and i compared it to mezcal.
book club: conversations on love
i am actually the worst book club partner of all time because i did not fully finish this book before the library needed it back, but i still really liked it (sorry to my book club partner who is getting my review of 80% of the book). i would have finished it if it wasnât the busiest season of the year.
some of these quotes from the book stood out to me the most:
âI think thereâs a danger of pulling away from love in order to own your feminism, when, actually, you learn to understand yourself the relation to people around you. You can find independence through connection too.â
âSo far, my friends have treated me with more kindness than a romantic partner has. And itâs only so important to spend your life with people who not only see the goodness in you, but bring it out too.â
âWhat would I say to my younger self? Keep your feet well planted. You know itâs not just about who you find, itâs also who youâre going to be.â
currently watching: desperate housewives
i canât believe i havenât already talked about desperate housewives in this newsletter. this show is so insane, i love it. the drama, the scandals, the unrealistic plots that no other show could ever come up with. the only thing i hate about this show is susan, she might be my least favorite fictional tv show character from any show.
updating people about where iâm at in the show has felt like iâm someone who hasnât seen greyâs anatomy. past watchers are waiting for my reactions to each season.
one thing that i didnât want to save for my next email.
carry on is finally opening to the public tonight. i was shocked when i tried to make a reservation and they were hundreds of dollars. theyâre sold out already so people bought their spots for opening weekend.
thatâs all i have for this week! iâll catch up with you all at the beginning of december.
your friend,
lauren
