HAPPY APRIL! this is my favorite month of the year, and itâs not because itâs my birthday month (but it definitely always makes things more fun). spring in phoenix is perfect. the evenings are still cool, while the sun perfectly soaks my skin in the afternoons. the city is alive this time of year and itâs this period that phoenix has more magic. restaurant patios are packed, artists and vendors are lining the sidewalks along roosevelt, and neighborhoods are closed off for home tours and street fairs.
every year, i go through this tug-of-war because iâd love to move away at some point in my life, but phoenix is constantly evolving and growing, so why would i want to leave? sometimes i think of her as a younger sibling to los angeles, always looking up in admiration and trying to mimic all of the cool things that came before.
spring in phoenix is so representative of that growth. iâve struggled during the summer months to find events and new openings, but that is not the case for this email. iâve got a good list this month, so i wonât keep you waiting any longer.

my favorite things i ate last month
some very special events happened in march, which called for very special meals.
my partner and i went to tratto for his birthday, which put me on a cacio e pepe kick that i canât get rid of. itâs too good. we also had the focaccia, winter citrus salad, farinata, and wood-roasted mushrooms. it was easily the best meal i had all month.
we also went to ollie vaughnâs earlier that morning which was a rare treat to go there on a weekday when there was no line. iâm now obsessed with cast iron eggs and need to start making them at home regularly.
mas amable is my new favorite pop-up after having it for a third time. not a single thing has disappointed me so far and thereâs always something new to try. most recently i had an oyster mushroom dish at the first place birthday party.
my brother came to town for his birthday and got engaged at the beginning of the month, so we had a lot of reasons to meet for a family dinner. i took him to huarachis for the first time and we all shared a carnitas platter (i picked around the pork). iâm still thinking about how good it wasâŠ
thatâs everything for april! if youâre not getting out this month, youâre not enjoying the best month in phoenix (usuallyâŠiâm a little scared over the forecast for next week, but weâre not gonna think about that right now).
as always, thank you for reading this email and supporting my passion project.
with gratitude,
lauren
